relief etching; Pl 41 from Songs of Innocence and Experience (2 vols, by the artist, 36 works).; It appears that in 1796, Blake printed the “Large Book of Designs” for the miniature painter Ozias Humphrey. The color plates were reproduced in black and white in 1804. An etching in colors (in relief) sold at Christie’s, lot #1 on 03.May.1999 for $18,000, against an estimate of $20,000-$30,000.; Print etchings form Song of Innocence sell very well. On 01.Nov.2007 Sotheby’s. The Shepherd (Plate 4) for $90,000 (against an estimate of $35,000-$45,000, size is 4 1/3” x 2.75”); The Little Blake Boy (Plate 11) for $160,000 (against an estimate of $45,000-$65,000, size of each of the two etchings that make up this relief is unlisted); The divine Image (Plate 17) for $100,000 (against an estimate of $5,000-$10,000, size is 4 1/3” x 2 5/8”); and Cradle Song (Plate 24) for $95,000 (against an estimate of $10,000-$15,000, size of each of the two etchings that make up this relief is unlisted).
